Lies

You fill people with a sense of hope

Every word that you utter

Rolls off your tongue so smoothly

Just like melted butter

Your lies are preconceived

And all truth has been eschewed

You don’t hesitate to deceive the innocent

How can you be so crude?

Weaving webs of fraud and deception

Without the slightest regard

As to where your actions may lead you

You only wish to remain unmarred

All too soon, however, it happens

Your lies have matched your stride

They catch up and ultimately reveal you

For whom you are deep down inside

It is then that you look around you

At the world which you have conjured

And realize the fouls you’ve committed

How many people you have falsely lured

As you attempt to break past the barrier

That separates your world from ours

You are met with unfriendly looks

Faces of contempt, distrust, and scowls

Desperate to regain the trust

Which you have strived to develop for years

You plead and beg for absolution

Gradually, your eyes give way to tears

Unwilling at first, to forgive

The lies and havoc you’ve created

Your friends and family begin to contemplate

All the people you’ve truly frustrated

You allowed the lies to wholly consume you

Leaving not a trace of originality behind

You gave them the key to yourself

And eventually, they overtook your mind

But now that you’ve taken over the reins

Of your mind, body, and soul

I strongly urge you to remember

To ensure those lies never regain control.
